United States: California, Vinous Table
This recent charity dinner at Saison was easily the finest meal I have had there and also one of my best dinners of 2018, period. The evening came together as a charity lot that was auctioned off at the most recent La Festa del Barolo to benefit children’s oncology at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
This spectacular bachelor party/dinner at Saison was a fitting sendoff as one of our dear friends prepared to embark on the next stage of life. The food, wines and service on this night were as good as it gets.
Italy, Italy: Piedmont, Piedmont, Vinous Table
One of Italy’s best and most beautiful restaurants, La Ciau del Tornavento offers memorable views of the vineyards and one of the country’s “top ten” wine cellars, making it a must-visit, especially in the off-season.
France, France: Alsace, Vinous Table
JY’s is without a doubt one of Alsace’s three best restaurants, offering a combination of precise, complex dishes, a good wine list, professional service and a romantic, refined location along the river Lauch in Colmar’s pretty Little Venice district.
Over the years, I have got to know Hong Kong well and made many friends within its thriving wine scene. And it’s a wine scene like no other. Weekly mouthwatering dinners, verticals and winemaker-tutored retrospectives create an almost frenzied atmosphere on libation, only possible here where there is such a concentration of collectors within a 15-minute drive of each other.
France, Vinous Table
Arpège is one of the world’s best-known restaurants, a temple of high gastronomy where foodies flock to share in chef Alain Passard’s unique ability to turn vegetables (but not only vegetables) into the stars of a memorable meal.
Italy, Vinous Table
Armando al Pantheon is arguably Rome’s best trattoria., Small, snug, and cozy in ambience, Armando al Pantheon is a real bastion of Roman comfort food and is not to be missed on your next trip to the Eternal city, provided you can get a reservation.
Once upon a time the Right Bank was a dismal place to eat out. It was even worse than the UK. Pomerol might have been studded with famous châteaux, but try buying a measly croissant...it was harder than finding a legit bottle of 1991 Petrus. Thankfully the Right Bank has come a long way in culinary terms. Fortunately, Saint-Émilion’s restaurant scene has blossomed with numerous places to dine, and yet one restaurant soars above the rest – Logis de la Cadène.
Italy: Tuscany, Vinous Table
Tuscany is littered with dozens of exceptional and even world-class wine estates. When it comes to dining, though, things get much more dicey. It is not always easy to cut through the plethora of anonymous restaurants serving indifferent fare to the unsuspecting tourist crowd and find places that excel with both delicious, well-prepared food and a carefully thought out wine program. Located steps away from Siena’s Piazza del Campo, Osteria Le Logge is one of the bright spots in Tuscany’s food and wine scene.
Italy: North, Vinous Table
Langosteria is one of the hippest restaurants in Milan that harkens back to Paris brasseries, but with a Milanese fashion attitude, very good food and a truly outstanding wine list.
