1971 Krug Vintage (Magnum)

Krug’s 1971 Vintage, tasted from magnum, is truly spectacular. Deep, voluptuous and strikingly resonant in the glass, the 1971 retains surprising freshness for a wine of its age. Scents of pastry, dried apricot, mint and floral-infused honey abound, but it is the interplay of nuance and pure, unbridled power that elevates Krug’s 1971 into the stratosphere. Nineteen seventy-one is remembered as a year in which frost and hail lowered yields dramatically throughout Champagne. The challenging conditions of the growing season, along with the magnum bottle (which is so well-suited to Champagne), have resulted in a dazzling, vibrant Krug Vintage that will drink well for at least another decade. With special thanks to a dear friend for sharing this magnificent Champagne. 97/Drinking Window: 2016-2026.
